| Everything
you need to know about the Newgate
Lane & Racecourse Area NMT. |
|
 |
The
NLRA-NMT was formed in January 2007
and is a spin-off the the very successful Newgate Action Group (NAG),
which itself had been in existence since 1993.
THIS SECTION IS
CURRENTLY BEING UPDATED TO REFLECT THE NEW AREA COVERED
BY THE NLRA-NMT. INFORMATION BELOW REFER TO THE AREA,
AND PROJECTS MANAGED BY THE PREVIOUS NEWGATE ACTION
GROUP.
The scheme encompasses the ‘triangle’ formed by Rock
Hill- Ratcliffe Gate, Newgate Lane - Skerry Hill and Carter Lane plus a
few extra streets to form the shape outlined below.
The
scheme is designed to utilise funding from various sources to tackle five
key issues:
 | Poor
job prospects
|
 | High
levels of crime
|
 | Educational
under-achievement
|
 | Poor
health standards
|
 | Problems
with housing and the physical environment
|
To ensure these
issues are dealt with effectively, the Newgate Action Group was formed,
enabling residents to act as ‘advisors’ to the renewal scheme. The
group also aims to foster community spirit; to increase the involvement of
the local community, its groups and business in the life of the renewal
area; to give voice to that community in its dealing with
‘officialdom’ and to inform the community of the opportunities
presented by the regeneration program.

selection of changes made to the renewal area up to end of 2002 (in no
particular order):
