3. Introductions
3.1.
Samantha Raggart was welcomed to the meeting.
Samantha has temporarily replaced Anthony Hodge as the Council’s representative
for the duration of the Jackson’s Field renewal.
4. Previous Minutes
4.1. Minutes of the meeting of 15th
January 2002 were agreed to be a true record.
5. Reports & Updates
5.1. Abandoned Cars – It
was reported that the council had now removed the vast majority of abandoned
cars. It was also noted that a resident on Birkland St appears to be running a
business from their Council property (an act which is in breach of their
tenancy), working on/dismantling cars in the street. This will be reported to
the appropriate department.
5.2.
Jacksons Park Update – Samantha Raggart (MDC)
and Jonathon Dix (Groundwork Ashfield & Mansfield) gave a brief update on
the Jackson’s Field renewal.
Work is expected to commence on Monday 25th February 2002. A number
of tenders were submitted by various companies but was eventually won by
CEDLOE, which is the Council’s own contract firm. The current target for its
completion is 27th May 2002.
Rumours that dogs will need to kept on leads at all times whilst on the new
Jackson’s Park were discussed and found to be not true. Owners will be free to
exercise their dogs except in the multi-games area in the centre of the field.
Owners will also be required to clean up after their pets. Appropriate signage
to this effect will be erected.
5.3.
Land at top of Birkland
Street -
Samantha Raggart reported that the land at the top of Birkland Street has now
been sold but as yet the new owner has not submitted a planning application for
building on the land, and its future use is still unknown.
5.4.
Drains, Newgate Lane – Several residents have
complained to the Council regarding the poor drains on Newgate Lane, in
particular the properties from 128-132 Newgate Lane. It appears that the drains
are not drains but merely soak-aways. Unfortunately, the water is soaking into
the cellars of the aforementioned properties causing significant structural
damage. Councillor Barbara Nestor said she would contact Rob Purser and Don
Smith at the Council to see what the current situation was and if any progress
had been made on solving the problem.
5.5.
Litter Problem, Newgate
Lane/Rock Street – Several comments were raised concerning the continuous litter
problem on Rock Street and Newgate Lane. Councillor Barbara Nestor said she
would request a clean up by the PIN (Pride in Neighbourhood) Team.
6.
Any Other Business
6.1. Following on from the
problem of car drivers travelling the wrong way along Montague Street, a new
One-Way sign has now been erected.
6.2. Trees that were reported to be
hanging dangerously low at the Rock Hill end of Redcliffe Road have now been
pruned right back and the litter has also been cleaned up.
6.3. The flowerbeds on Rock
Street that were in a mess have now been tidied up.
The meeting closed at
7.50pm.
