1. Introductions
There were a few new faces at the meeting so Michelle asked everyone to introduce themselves to one another.

2. Previous Minutes
Minutes of the meeting of 19th February 2002 were agreed to be a true record.

3. Reports & Updates
Jackson’s Park Update – Samantha Raggart (MDC) and Jonathon Dix (Groundwork Ashfield & Mansfield) gave a brief update on the Jackson’s Field renewal. Currently, the work is running about a week behind. Comments were raised that children had entered the fenced area and uprooted the surveyor’s marker posts. It was noted that children have a fascination for construction sites and it is a regular problem. Residents were urged to play their part by warning off children wherever possible.

It was also stated that the road that runs along the top of the field is to dug up and a new surface laid, although this will not be a tarmac surface.

Land at top of Birkland Street – It is still unclear as to the proposed use of the recently purchased land at the top of Birkland Street. As yet, no planning applications have been submitted.

Drains, Newgate Lane – Since the last meeting, Care & Repair have been out to several residents on Newgate Lane to discuss their on-going problems with water in their cellars. Care & Repair have contacted Severn Trent water to investigate the problem.

4.Any Other Business
Litter Problems/Untidy Streets – At the last meeting, the group requested the PIN (Pride in Neighbourhood) Team to tackle the accumulation of litter in and around Rock Street, Montague Street and Bolsover Street. However, the worst litter problem was on the Carter Lane end of Rock Street and this was missed. Councillor Barbara Nestor said she would contact the relevant department to request the clear up of litter in front of the old bookmakers.

Flower Beds/Graffiti, Rock Street – It was reported to the group that the flowerbed adjacent to the Co-op was once again damaged, no doubt by the delivery lorry. Barbara Nestor said that she would see if it could be repaired and also have the graffiti removed from the sidewall of the Co-op building.

Mill Street Footpath Repairs – A resident on Mill Street reported that an uneven footpath had been repaired using black asphalt when the original asphalt was red. He commented that repairing the footpath in this manner contributed to the general “untidiness” of the street and should at least been painted with red tar. Jonathon Dix stated that to lay red asphalt would have required the purchase of a large quantity and would have been uneconomical to do.

Disposal of Syringes & Needles - A resident raised an important issue at the meeting, the correct procedure when dealing with used syringes and needles. He commented that he had found a dozen or so at the top of Birkland Street and had contacted the Council to have them removed. He stated that he spoke to the cleansing department who referred him to the leisure department as the items were actually on Jackson’s Field. Consequently, the syringes took over a week to be removed! Resident finding used needles or syringes were urged to contact the street cleansing department immediately on 01623 463282. They should attend the same day.

Bolsover Street Parking – Several residents on Bolsover Street complained that parking outside their properties was becoming a problem because of taxis, and visitors to the Treasury. The Treasury are currently trying to raise funding to turn the land adjacent to their building into a car park, which should alleviate the problem.

Poster, 110 Newgate Lane – In future, posters will be placed in the windows of 110 Newgate Lane advertising future meetings.

The meeting closed at 8.30pm.
