Opening of new park with youth shelter and play arena £200,000 worth of new facilities, predominantly aimed at teenagers was opened at a Mansfield park on Friday 12th July 2002. A multi-use games area, including basketball and five-a-side area is the centre-piece to the massive revamp of the park, which also includes a youth shelter, look-out post, improved lighting, landscaping, vehicle barriers, litter bins and seating areas. The park has also been made fully accessible to people with disabilities.

Click on image to enlarge	Jackson's Field Renewal Plan The site, off Newgate Lane and near to the Town Centre, was previously an unused field - which had become a magnet for illegal off-road motorcyclists and vandals. Local people were asked what facilities they would like to see to the site during a major consultation exercise between Mansfield District Council, local residents and the Newgate Lane Action Group. Concerns ranged from the safety of users of the park at night because of poor lighting to a lack of youth facilities in the area.
